From what? Possibly the Sith. And it was perfectly obvious that the Jedi wanted him gone. But he also wanted to avoid a fight. And while both intriguing and curious, Malgus had half a mind to leave it alone.

What he did not know was that Malgus would probably not kill him if the Jedi did as he said he would. He considered it yes, but ultimately he'd owe a debt for the Jedi's aide and simply leaving him would repay that.

If they ever met again in the future, that would be another story.
